Other dread makers: times & prices vary ($50-$100/hr) but if they take less than 5hrs to make a full head & use a crochet hook, they are not locking the whole dread throroughly & dreads may loosen!

TIME INFO: The time it takes to make dreads varies depending on the length, thickness & amount of hair you have, as well as how many dreads you want, Eg: how thick or thin you want them. The average head takes 7-10hrs, but people with a lot of thick hair or long hair of any thickness will usually take a bit longer. The longest time for a full head has been 15hrs, where the customer had a lot of very thick short hair that was harder to tease than longer hair. The shortest time was 5 hrs for a girl who wanted them done loosely & had dry coloured hair (which locks easily).

"Hi! I've been happily making & maintaining dreadlocks,since I had mine done in the year 2000. I work with a fine crochet hook, which I've found through extensive research to be the best method to lock hair permanently and instantly. In fact its the only method that allows for neat tight dreads to be made in one sitting, without any chemicals, wax, product or ongoing maintenace. HOW & WHERE I MAKE TIGHT BEAUTIFUL NATURAL DREADLOCKS:

Forget that painful tight back-combing for hours, forget the chemicals and pipecleaners, forget the salon and forget the wax! Why would you want all that if you want dreads?

I use a tiny crochet hook and my hands to thoroughly interlock each matted, strand of back combed hair (the rough dread) and repeat the process until all the hair is dreaded neatly and tightly!

I work from the comfort of my own home in South Golden Beach (20mins north of Byron Bay & 20 mins south of Sth Tweed Heads), either in the garden or inside with air-con (if its too hot out). We can listen to music, chat or watch a dvd to pass the time and usually have 2 drink breaks & a lunch break when I do a full head.

INFO ON DREAD UP-KEEP WITH CROCHET HOOK METHOD:

Dreadlocks made or maintained with this method do not get loose & rarely even get messy (except at scalp when hair grows)! Saying this I cannot guarentee how your hair will take to dreads as some hair types will lock better than others. Some new dreads can get a bit fuzzy/fluffy on the surface ... BUT I do guarentee that they will stay tightly locked and will not come open (like many dreads from hairdressers do if you don't roll them)!

There is no dreadlock maintenance, rubbing, rolling or waxing needed - as with other less sophisticated methods.

The only work needed is having the re-growth done occasionally. To have permanently neat dreads I recommend getting re-growth done every 6 months, or if you don't need that clean dreaded look all the time, every 12 months is fine.

It's a fuss free natural hairstyle that can enhance a positively evolving lifestyle - you spend less time worrying about your hair, leaving more time for the better things in life!
